Course Description

Age-related macula degeneration (AMD) is one of many common conditions that has affected the aged. It affects near vision significantly if not recognised at an early stage. It is not preventable; however, it is well-managed if caught in time. This talk will provide the optometrist with the ability to distinguish dry (non-exudative) from wet (exudative) AMD and the risk factors for its development. It will provide helpful clinical peals for its recognition and appropriate medical management, including the AREDS formulary supplements. It will further inform appropriate referral for both dry and wet AMD and broadly enlighten the optometrist on available ophthalmologic medical approaches to managing wet AMD, such anti-VEGF interventions.
