BACKROUND
Divergence excess is a condition in which there is a greater amount of exophoria at distance than at near. It is characterized by intermittent deviation, an absence of amblyopia and good stereopsis at near. Duane originally, in 1897, used the term divergence excess to describe almost all the exodeviation especially those with deviation large at distance than at near. Patients who present with this condition often report occasional double vision at distance, while others suppress or avoid diplopia with anomalous retinal correspondence (ARC). The occasional deviation makes it difficult to get the reliable prism magnitude to neutralise deviation. Govindan, Mohney, Diehl and Burke’s Investigation on the prevalence of divergence excess in strabismic population shown an incidence of 32.1 per 100 000 in children under 19 years of age. This is a cause for a concern on the ocular clinical examination tests performed on daily basis by professional optometrists. It is important to discuss classifications, clinical findings, diagnosis considerations, and management of this condition.
PURPOSE OF THE WEBINAR
Purpose of this webinar is to impact professional optometrists with knowledge on the classification, investigation, diagnosis, and management of intermittent exotropia of the divergence excess type.
