Course Description

Discussion topics on clinical investigations of your asymptomatic strabismic patients often gets overshadowed by discussions around strabismic patients with diplopia or strabismic patients with amblyopia. One would need to take a step back and look at how should the optometrist appropriately examine a strabismic patient that’s asymptomatic of his/her ocular misalignment with no report of visual disturbances when the patient is in your chair. This, prior to considering management interventions for the strabismus until an accurate diagnosis is made from a systematic and tailored patient assessment.

The aim of this lecture is to guide optometrists to adopt a systematic flow of the specific examination techniques to profile a strabismic patient by investigating, classifying and diagnosing various cases of strabismus.

What you'll learn

The value of patient observation of facial features
The need for a thorough history-taking with specific probing questions not normally asked.

The modification of the objective and subjective refraction techniques with prescription alterations, if indicated.
