Webinar Duration: 1 Hours | CPD Points : 1
The sedentary lifestyles of today are on the rise, including systemic hypertension. Coupled with its historical prevalence amongst South Africans, it should be our responsibility as optometrists to understand and recognise hypertensive retinopathy. Clinicians may easily recognise the exudative phase of hypertensive retinopathy, which may be delaying its diagnosis. We must recognise and stage hypertensive retinopathy at the non-exudative stage as well, should we want to satisfy our role as primary health care providers.
Therefore, this talk will endeavour to empower the optometrist to appropriately diagnose the non-exudative phase and the exudative phase of hypertensive retinopathy. In doing so, this will allow for the appropriate referral strategies to either the internist if undiagnosed or the ophthalmologist at the necessary stage for appropriate interventions, either systemic or ophthalmic care.
