Course Description

Amidst the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic downturn, and the technological strides of the 4th industrial revolution, healthcare practitioners are grappling with the challenges of effectively managing and sustaining their practices, with repercussions not only for their own well-being but also for the broader public. Faced with the urgency to stay viable, numerous healthcare practices are making notable errors in practice management that have adverse effects on both their operations and the well-being of their patients. For instance, the growing trend of online sales for health products and services has tempted some practitioners to breach ethical boundaries by withholding prescriptions, hindering patients from purchasing products online with those prescriptions. Such actions, driven by desperation to retain clients, violate ethical rules set by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and are contrary to the best interests of the patients.Recognizing the pressing need to offer support to healthcare practitioners, it becomes crucial to provide guidance on avoiding pitfalls in practice and patient management. This guidance aims to prevent hindrances to practice success and ensure adherence to HPCSA ethical rules.
