Course Description

Introduction
The slit-lamp is an indispensable tool in optometry, yet its full potential is often underutilized. Diagnosing anterior segment conditions such as corneal abrasions, conjunctival abnormalities, and lens pathology requires advanced techniques to identify subtle changes that may be overlooked during routine examinations. Developing mastery of slit-lamp skills allows for improved diagnostic accuracy, better patient care, and timely referrals when needed. This hands-on webinar will guide practitioners through advanced slit-lamp techniques for examining the cornea, conjunctiva, anterior chamber, and lens. Practical tips and step-by-step demonstrations will empower participants to detect early signs of pathology with greater confidence and precision.

Objectives
1. To provide an in-depth understanding of advanced slit-lamp techniques for diagnosing anterior segment conditions.

2. To demonstrate methods for detecting subtle changes in corneal, conjunctival, and lens pathology.

3. To offer practical tips for optimizing illumination, magnification, and viewing angles to enhance diagnostic accuracy.

4. To equip practitioners with techniques for documenting and interpreting findings effectively for clinical decision-making.

5. To discuss real-world case examples where advanced slitlamp skills improved patient outcomes and management.

What you'll learn

1. Master advanced slit-lamp techniques, including diffuse illumination, specular reflection, sclerotic scatter, and retro illumination.
2. Learn to identify subtle anterior segment changes indicative of corneal conditions (e.g., abrasions, dystrophies, keratitis) and conjunctival pathology (e.g., hyperemia, pinguecula).
3. Understand how to evaluate lens changes such as cataracts, opacities, and early posterior capsular changes.
4. Improve their clinical efficiency and accuracy by applying the correct illumination methods, magnification levels, and filter use for each scenario.
